Workday HCM Consultant

TL;DR

We are seeking an experienced Workday HCM Consultant to join our Workday Application Management Services (AMS) practice. This role focuses on providing ongoing functional support, optimization, and advisory services to clients following their Workday implementation.

The Workday HCM Consultant will serve as a trusted functional advisor, helping clients maintain a stable, scalable, and optimized Workday environment. This includes troubleshooting production issues, analyzing business requirements, designing and configuring solutions, supporting Workday releases, identifying opportunities for process and system improvements, and partnering with client stakeholders to continuously enhance their Workday platform.

The ideal candidate has strong hands-on Workday configuration experience, a passion for problem solving, excellent communication skills, and the ability to independently manage client requests in a fast-paced consulting environment. Experience supporting Workday in a post-production or AMS environment is highly preferred.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide Workday functional consulting services as a subject matter expert, supporting clients across the full system development lifecycle, including requirements gathering, configuration, testing, deployment, and post-production support.

  • Configure and optimize Workday HCM modules, such as Core HCM, Payroll, Talent, Compensation, Recruiting, Benefits, Absence, and Time Tracking.

  • Translate complex business requirements into scalable, intuitive Workday solutions that support operational efficiency and long-term maintainability.

  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams such as Integrations, Payroll, and Finance to ensure cohesive and holistic solution design.

  • Perform impact analysis for configuration changes, business process updates, and Workday releases, proactively identifying risks and recommending system and process improvements.

  • Develop and maintain Workday reports, dashboards, and audits to support operational and leadership reporting needs.

  • Provide post-production and optimization support by troubleshooting, conducting root-cause analysis, and implementing sustainable solutions to ensure system stability and accuracy.

  • Support testing activities including unit testing, end-to-end payroll validation, parallel testing, and regression testing to ensure accurate results.

  • Train and mentor junior consultants and provide guidance on Workday methodologies

  • Stay current on new Workday releases and industry trends to ensure solutions remain cutting-edge.

  • Act as a trusted advisor to client stakeholders through proactive communication, clear status reporting, and consistent delivery of high-quality outcomes.

  • Produce clear, consistent, and high-quality documentation, including configuration workbooks, process flows, test scripts, and operational guides, in alignment with organizational standards.

  • Quickly learn and adapt to new tools, integrations, and client-specific systems required to support projects.

  • Support business development efforts through proposal writing and thought leadership.

Key Requirements:

  • 3+ years of hands-on Workday HCM experience in a consulting, implementation, or post-production support environment.

  • Demonstrated experience configuring and supporting Workday HCM functionality in a production environment.

  • Strong understanding of Workday business processes, configuration, security, reporting, and system dependencies.

  • Experience troubleshooting complex Workday issues and performing root-cause analysis.

  • Experience supporting Workday releases and assessing the impact of new functionality on existing client configurations.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to investigate issues and develop sustainable solutions.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with client stakeholders at all levels.

  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities, client requests, and deadlines.

  • Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively with consulting and client teams.

  • Demonstrated ability to build trusted relationships with clients and operate effectively in a client-facing consulting environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Workday certification in one or more HCM functional areas.

  • Experience working within a Workday AMS or managed services model.

  • Experience supporting multiple Workday clients or complex enterprise Workday environments.

  • Experience with Workday Reporting, Advanced Reporting, dashboards, calculated fields, and audits.

  • Experience with Workday security and business process configuration.

  • Experience with Workday Compensation, Time Tracking and/or Absence modules.

  • Experience participating in Workday implementations or major optimization initiatives.

  • Experience mentoring consultants or contributing to consulting methodologies and best practices.

  • Experience supporting proposals, client solutioning, or other business development activities.
