Sr. HRIS Applications Analyst - Workday

TL;DR

Remote in the US, you’ll serve as the Workday subject matter expert, leading configuration and optimization across Core HCM, Absence, Benefits, Compensation, Payroll, Talent, and Time Tracking. You’ll troubleshoot production issues, integrations, reports, and HR workflows while partnering with HR, Finance, Benefits, and IT. The role calls for 5+ years of HRIS experience, Workday Studio, EIB, Core Connectors, APIs, and knowledge of XML, XSLT, and JSON.

The Business Applications team is currently seeking a Senior HRIS Applications Analyst to serve as a Workday subject matter expert that takes lead in the design and build to optimize our HR system. This role partners closely with HR, Finance, Benefits, and IT. At Illumio, we are powering the era of agentic enterprise. The ideal candidate operates independently with general guidance, manages complex issues, and influences outcomes through expertise, analytics, and consultative communication.

Your Impact:

  • Configure, maintain, and optimize Workday modules including Core HCM, Absence Management, Benefits, Advanced Compensation, Payroll, Performance & Talent, and Time Tracking
  • Troubleshoot and resolve Workday operational issues including time off inconsistencies, absence plan discrepancies, and benefit related integration issues
  • Partner cross-functionally to resolve system, data, and process issues impacting HR business process workflows and downstream system integrations.
  • Partner with business stakeholders to provision access, provide data via creation of custom reports & dashboards – including Discovery Boards & Workday Hubs
  • Support, maintain, and troubleshoot inbound and outbound integrations and data loads using Enterprise Interface Builder (EIB), Cloud Connectors, and Workday Studio.
  • Provide production support including triaging tickets, troubleshooting system issues, providing end-user support, researching alternative solutions and features, and delivering on enhancement requests
  • Support yearly advanced compensation review/merit cycle configuration including equity and bonus
  • Support configuration of US Open Enrollment and compliance requirements for global Benefits set up
  • Act as a consultative partner to business stakeholders, helping to inform and resolve issues, while adequately managing expectations.
  • Communicate clear system impacts, process changes, and data insights to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Establish strong relationships with internal stakeholders by gaining deep understanding of key initiatives and business needs
  • Support change management efforts by developing and maintaining internal process docs/playbooks, end-user training, and best-practice recommendations.
  • Maintain clear case notes via ServiceNow case management system and documentation to support transparency, continuity, and high-quality service delivery.
  • Plan and execute unit testing, integration testing, and user acceptance testing (UAT) to validate system accuracy and end-to-end process integrity.
  • Drive consistency, standardization, and controls across HR workflows to improve execution quality and reduce operational and compliance risk.
  • Provide informal mentoring or guidance to peers on Workday functionality, reporting, and HRIS best practices.

Your Toolkit:

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Business, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5+ years of HRIS experience, with hands-on expertise in Workday configuration, implementation at a global scale
  • Demonstrated experience supporting multiple Workday modules (HCM, Absence, Benefits, Advanced Compensation, Payroll, Performance & Talent, Time Tracking, and Reporting).
  • In depth knowledge of Workday foundational concepts, business processes, EIBs, Security, Reporting, and calculated fields
  • Strong experience with Workday integration tools including Workday Studio, EIB, Core Connectors, and Workday APIs (SOAP/REST)
  • Proficiency in XML, XSLT, JSON, and web services technologies
  • Experience with integration middleware or iPaaS solutions (e.g., Boomi, Workato) is a plus
  • Workday Pro Certification is a plus
  • Curiosity and experience experimenting with and building solutions using AI tools such as Workday Agents, Co-Pilot, Claude to improve and automate tasks & processes
