About the role

Mastercard is seeking a highly experienced Principal Workday Technical Architect to define and drive the long-term architecture strategy for Workday and the broader People & Capability technology ecosystem.

This role serves as a technical authority for Workday and the broader HR technology architecture, integrations, extensibility, security, data management, and platform modernization. The Principal Architect partners with business leaders, product, engineering, security, and governance teams to deliver scalable, secure, resilient, and future-ready solutions that support Mastercard's global workforce.

The successful candidate will combine deep Workday and broader HR technical expertise with enterprise architecture experience, bringing thought leadership, strategic vision, and hands-on architectural guidance across HCM, Recruiting, Talent, Compensation, Benefits, Payroll, Learning, and adjacent domains.

Role

  • Define the long-term architecture, standards, and roadmap for the Workday and related People & Capability technologies.

  • Lead the design of scalable, secure, and resilient Workday solutions, integrations, and platform capabilities.

  • Partner with business stakeholders, product teams, and engineering leaders to translate strategic priorities into technology solutions.

  • Govern architecture decisions, ensure alignment with enterprise standards, and drive simplification of the technology landscape.

  • Evaluate emerging Workday capabilities and innovation opportunities to improve employee experience, operational efficiency, and business outcomes.

  • Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and architectural guidance, influencing engineering teams on design best practices, solution trade-offs, and implementation strategies.

  • Act as a trusted advisor to senior stakeholders, clearly communicating complex architectural topics in concise, business oriented language to support informed decision making.

  • Produce and govern key architectural documentation, ensuring compliance with Mastercard’s engineering principles and security standards.

All About You

  • 10+ years of enterprise application architecture and engineering experience.

  • 5+ years of hands-on Workday technical architecture experience in large, complex enterprises.

  • Deep and proven expertise in implementing Workday integrations using Studio, Core Connectors, EIB, APIs, web services, and middleware platforms.

  • Experience architecting and governing Workday Extend solutions to address complex business requirements while minimizing customization and technical debt.

  • Expertise in Workday security architecture, governance, compliance, and audit controls.

  • Strong knowledge of cloud architecture, API design, modern data architectures, and enterprise integration patterns.

  • Demonstrated success leading large-scale transformation and modernization programs.

  • Excellent executive communication and stakeholder management skills.

  • Ability to influence strategic decisions across technology and business organizations.

  • Motivated by continuous learning and challenge, bringing curiosity, resilience, and energy to complex problem spaces and opportunities for impact.

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or related field.

Compensation and Benefits

In line with Mastercard's total compensation philosophy and assuming that the job will be performed in the US, the successful candidate will be offered a competitive base salary and may be eligible for an annual bonus or commissions depending on the role. The base salary offered may vary depending on multiple factors, including but not limited to location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.

Pay Ranges

  • Purchase, New York: $175,000 - $297,000 USD

  • O'Fallon, Missouri: $152,000 - $258,000 USD
