Workday Functional Lead

About the role

TL;DR

Remote role for a hands-on Workday functional lead with 7+ years in HRIS, HR technology, or enterprise SaaS and 4+ years across multiple Workday modules. You’ll own configuration, testing, design decisions, reporting, stakeholder requirements, roadmap work, and biannual release management across Core HCM, Recruiting, Talent & Performance, Compensation, Time & Absence, Learning, Help, Peakon, and Payroll. A bachelor’s degree is required, and Workday certifications are preferred.

Key Responsibilities:

Workday Functional Leadership

  • Serve as the hands-on functional lead for the Workday platform across key modules including Core HCM, Recruiting, Talent & Performance, Compensation, Time & Absence, Reporting, Learning, Help, Peakon and Payroll.
  • Perform hands-on configuration, testing and troubleshooting across these modules.
  • Provide expert guidance on Workday configuration, functionality and best practices.
  • Ensure Workday capabilities align with organisational HR processes and strategic priorities.

Platform Design and Configuration Oversight

  • Lead functional design decisions for Workday implementations and enhancements and build the resulting configuration.
  • Establish and maintain configuration standards and design principles.
  • Ensure consistency and scalability in system configuration across modules and business units.

Requirements and Solution Design

  • Partner with HR and business stakeholders to gather and translate requirements into functional solutions within Workday.
  • Evaluate business requests and recommend scalable system solutions aligned with platform capabilities and best practices.
  • Document functional specifications and lead configuration and testing.

Workday Roadmap and Enhancements

  • Support the development and execution of the Workday platform roadmap.
  • Identify opportunities to enhance system functionality and improve HR processes.
  • Assess new Workday features and recommend adoption based on business value.

Release Management and Testing

  • Lead the evaluation and adoption of biannual Workday releases, including hands-on configuration of release-related changes.
  • Coordinate and execute testing cycles to ensure changes are successfully deployed.
  • Work with stakeholders to assess impact and ensure readiness for new functionality.

Data and Reporting

  • Partner with the People Analytics team and build Workday data structures and reports to support reporting and analytics needs.
  • Ensure data integrity and consistency across HR processes and system modules.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Act as a trusted advisor to HR leaders on Workday capabilities and system improvements.
  • Provide guidance on best practices for HR technology usage and process design.
  • Support training and adoption initiatives to maximise the value of the platform.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in information systems, Human Resources, Business Administration or related field.
  • 7+ years of experience in HRIS, HR technology or enterprise SaaS platforms.
  • 4+ years of hands on Workday functional experience across multiple modules.
  • Exposure to Learning, Help, Peakon and/or Payroll modules is highly desirable.
  • Experience supporting Workday implementations or major platform transformations in global organisations is highly desirable.
  • Strong understanding of HR processes including employee lifecycle, talent management and workforce reporting.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate business requirements into scalable system solutions.
  • Experience working with cross functional teams including HR, IT and business stakeholders.
  • Workday certifications in relevant modules are preferred but not mandatory.
