About the role
Own Workday Payroll, Absence Management, and Time Tracking for a 5,000+ employee, multi-state U.S. payroll environment. You’ll configure payroll, time, and absence processes, manage integrations and reports, provide Tier 3 support, and lead semi-annual Workday releases. The role needs 3–5 years of Workday experience, including 2+ years in Payroll, plus experience with SOX controls, reporting, integrations, and release management.
The HRIS Analyst is the functional and technical owner of Workday Payroll, Absence Management, and Time Tracking (PATTS) at Pennant. In this role, you will design, optimize, and support scalable, compliant solutions that power payroll accuracy, operational efficiency, and an excellent employee experience.
You’ll partner closely with Payroll, HR, Finance, and IT, lead system enhancements and Workday releases, and serve as a trusted expert for complex payroll and time-related challenges. This role blends hands-on Workday configuration with strategic system ownership and cross-functional leadership.
Key Responsibilities
Workday System Ownership
- Own the design, configuration, and ongoing optimization of Workday Payroll
- Translate business and regulatory requirements into scalable, best-practice Workday solutions.
- Lead Workday semi-annual releases, including impact analysis, testing, documentation, and deployment.
- Act as the escalation point for complex payroll, time, and absence issues.
Configuration & Technical Delivery
- Configure payroll processing (on-cycle, off-cycle, retro, on-demand), earnings, deductions, and payroll schedules.
- Maintain U.S. payroll compliance across federal, state, and local requirements.
- Configure and support Time Tracking rules, calculations, schedules, validations, and Absence accruals and eligibility.
- Ensure payroll and time-related integrations are reliable and compliant.
Reporting, Controls & Support
- Provide Tier 3 support for payroll system and data issues.
- Build and maintain Workday reports, dashboards, audits, and calculated fields.
- Support SOX controls, audits, testing, documentation, and regulatory changes.
Leadership & Enablement
- Mentor HRIS and payroll system resources and promote Workday best practices.
- Lead design discussions, communicate risks and tradeoffs, and drive alignment across stakeholders.
- Deliver training and documentation that improves adoption and confidence in Workday processes.
Qualifications
- 3-5 Years of Workday experience, including 2+ years supporting Payroll
- Strong U.S. payroll expertise in multi-state, complex environments (5,000+ employees).
- Hands-on experience with Workday configuration, reporting, integrations, and release management.
- Experience supporting SOX-controlled payroll environments.
- Workday certifications in U.S. Payroll preferred.
- Proven ability to lead cross-functional initiatives and deliver compliant, scalable solutions.
