Product Manager - HR/HCM

Unit4

Lisbon, PortugalRemote

About the role

TL;DR

Own strategy, roadmap, and delivery for HR and Compensation modules as a hands-on individual contributor, not a people manager. You’ll turn market and compliance needs into product specifications, coordinate agile teams, manage the backlog, and present plans and results to executives, customers, and stakeholders. You need 5+ years of end-to-end product management experience and solid HR/HCM process knowledge; customer projects may require security clearance and background checks.

Unit4's Human Capital Management (HCM) suite is part of our ERP and sits at the core of how our customers run their people operations across multiple countries and regulatory regimes. We're looking for a Product Lead to own strategy and execution for the HR modules within this portfolio, working hands-on with a genuine grasp of HR complexity, not just generic product craft.

This is a hands-on individual-contributor role, not a people-management position: you'll own the HR modules directly, working with cross-functional partners and executive stakeholders who rely on your understanding of both the product management discipline and the substance of HR and compliance that makes this domain hard to get right.

What will you do?

  • Develop and own the product strategy and roadmap for the HR & Compensation modules, aligned to company goals and the compliance realities of the markets we serve.

  • Translate market requirements and business cases into clear specifications for Engineering, UX, and Test.

  • Work closely with a wide range of stakeholders - Engineering, Design, Marketing, Sales, Customer Success, and peer Product Managers - without formal authority over any of them, building alignment through clarity and evidence rather than hierarchy.

  • Partner with Engineering, Design, and Marketing to plan and deliver product increments, and provide reliable estimates for broader roadmap initiatives.

  • Build and manage the feature backlog, balancing business priority against technical feasibility and long-term scalability.

  • Coordinate feature delivery across agile teams, identifying cross-team dependencies and working with peer Product Managers toward the most efficient shared solution.

  • Conduct market and competitive analysis to identify opportunities for differentiation, and stay accountable for market acceptance of solutions in your functional area.

  • Triage the defect queue with client support, and drive resolution with engineering according to SLA.

  • Present product vision, strategy, and results to executive leadership, customers, and stakeholders — including sprint reviews that elicit real feedback, not just status updates.

  • Manage the product lifecycle end to end, from concept through launch and ongoing evolution.

  • Stay current on HR/HCM industry trends, regulatory change, and emerging technology to keep our solutions ahead of the market.

Qualifications

What you must bring:

  • 5+ years of product management experience, with a track record of owning a product area end to end rather than just contributing to one.

  • Solid, working understanding of HR processes and the HR/HCM business domain — you can talk credibly about how HR actually runs inside an organization, not just about product frameworks.

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Computer Science, or a related field; Master's degree or equivalent advanced experience preferred.

  • Strong grounding in product management methodology, agile practice, and the software development lifecycle.

  • Proven ability to build and prioritize a roadmap using data, market research, and competitive analysis.

  • Excellent communication and executive presence — able to influence stakeholders at every level and tell a compelling, evidence-based story.

  • Comfortable in a fast-moving, matrixed organization with many stakeholders and competing priorities.

What will set you apart:

  • Product Management certification (e.g., PMP, CSPO) or equivalent recognized credential.

  • A track record of turning ambiguous market signals into a shipped, adopted product.

  • Familiarity with change management — understanding how people and organizations actually adopt new HR processes and tools.

  • Working knowledge of Payroll and Talent Management (TM)

  • Knowledge of our key industries — Professional Services, Public Sector, Not-for-Profit, or Higher Education

This role may require security clearance required for customer projects and access to sensitive (customer) data. That means that after you have accepted our offer, we could ask for background checks. Subject to applicable local laws, such security checks may require disclosure of personal information including criminal record declaration, right to work, personal identification and work history. No worries – we'll handle it according to local privacy laws and keep your information safe. Questions? Feel free to reach out!
