Senior Workday Administrator (HCM, Compensation and Security)

About the role

TL;DR

Own Workday HCM, Advanced Compensation, and Security configuration on a live tenant, including core HR, compensation cycles, access controls, reporting, and calculated fields. Lead module rollouts, system upgrades, and twice-yearly release changes, while troubleshooting issues and supporting data integrity and compliance. You need at least five years of hands-on Workday experience, plus strong skills across Recruiting, Benefits, Time Tracking, Absence, and Performance.

Reports to: Director, People Systems
Location: Remote / Home-Based

May include but are not limited to:

  • Own HCM and Compensation configuration — lead the configuration, maintenance, and ongoing operation of Workday HCM, Advanced Compensation and Security as the primary areas of ownership, including core HR, organization structures, business processes, the bonus, merit and promotion cycles, and compensation statements.
  • Lead configuration projects — lead Workday configuration work, including new module rollouts, upgrades, and feature adoption tied to the twice-yearly Workday releases.
  • Monitor system health — monitor system health, performance, and security, ensuring optimal functionality and compliance.
  • Security administration — own Workday security configuration for functional areas, managing security groups, roles, and permissions so that proper access controls are enforced, least-privilege is maintained, and segregation-of-duties and audit requirements are met.
  • Process improvement — partner with stakeholders to identify and implement process improvements and automation opportunities, and perform gap analyses to enhance system efficiency and user experience.
  • Advanced troubleshooting — provide advanced troubleshooting for configuration issues and data discrepancies, performing root-cause analysis and implementing permanent corrective actions.
  • Reporting — build, maintain, and optimize Workday reports and calculated fields to support business decisions, and ensure data accuracy across reports and dashboards.
  • Documentation and resilience — maintain clear documentation of processes, configurations, and system updates as a release gate, pair-working with colleagues so knowledge is shared and coverage is redundant ("documented before done").
  • Data integrity and compliance — ensure system compliance with relevant regulations, company policies, and audit requirements, and manage security roles and permissions so proper access controls are in place.
  • Mentoring — mentor junior administrators and provide guidance on best practices, and conduct training sessions for People Partners, Finance, and other end-users on new features and capabilities.
  • Stakeholder liaison — serve as a liaison between People Strategy & Culture, Finance, IT, Payroll, and other departments to align business processes with Workday functionality, and support integration colleagues on functional requirements where data feeds are involved.
  • Continuous improvement — stay informed of Workday's roadmap and new release updates, assessing their impact and benefits to the organization.
  • Confidentiality — ensure confidentiality of data and People Systems security is maintained at all times, and provide systems and technology support to the wider People team on projects.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of hands-on Workday configuration experience on a live tenant.
  • Deep functional expertise in Workday HCM, Advanced Compensation and Security.
  • Strong configuration experience across additional modules such as Recruiting, Benefits, Time Tracking, Absence, and Performance.
  • Strong understanding of Workday's architecture, business processes, security models, and reporting tools.
  • Proficiency in creating and maintaining Workday calculated fields, EIBs (Enterprise Interface Builder), and advanced reporting.
  • Experience with Workday configuration projects, system upgrades, and change management across the biannual releases.
  • A high degree of integrity, confidentiality, and commitment to data protection.
  • Clear communicator able to explain complex technical topics to non-technical stakeholders.

Desirable Skills and Experience

  • Workday certification — Workday certification is highly desirable, particularly in HCM, Security, and Advanced Compensation.
  • Previous experience of deployment of Workday modules
  • Experience working within a global, distributed, multi-country tenant environment.

Education

Bachelor's degree in Human Resources Management, Business, Information Systems, or a related field; or equivalent experience.
