HRIS Manager (Workday)

About the role

TL;DR

Own Workday governance and the wider HR technology roadmap, including configuration approvals, security, reporting, releases, integrations, support, and data integrity. You’ll lead UAT and annual HR cycle readiness, align HR, Finance, Payroll, and IT, and manage major system work without direct reports. The role requires 5+ years of Workday maintenance, optimization, and governance experience; Workday Pro certification is preferred.

You will be the strategic and operational system owner for all HR technology systems, including Workday; accountable for day-to-day system performance, governance execution, security administration, releases and configuration approvals, data integrity, and cross-functional alignment across Human Resources (HR), Finance, Payroll, and Information Technology (IT).

Responsibilities

  • Owns Workday governance and the operational roadmap, chairing the governance group to guide enhancement and optimization prioritization, decision making, and release readiness

  • Reviews and approves configuration across all modules; enforces standards for business processes, security, and data

  • Manages security roles, audits, and remediation documentation and processes

  • Develops and governs dashboards, analytics, and reporting strategy; oversees complex calculated fields

  • Develop and manage testing strategy User Acceptance Testing (UAT), regression cycles, releases, patches, and upgrades and annual HR cycles readiness; ensures timely issue resolution

  • Oversees ticket triage and escalation; manages complex support

  • Directs integration governance, vendor escalation, and third parties

  • Owns data integrity program, ensuring through audits, strong validation practices, and alignment with SOX (Sarbanes-Oxley) and internal control standards.

  • Accountable for training content, process documentation, and end-user training delivery quality

  • Stays informed about trends in information systems training, materials, and techniques through the Workday Community and other sources to continually enhance both HR knowledge and HRIS application/tools knowledge

  • Leads cross-functional alignment and requirements intake with HR COEs (Center of Excellence), Finance, Payroll, and IT

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred in HR, IS, Business, or related field

  • 5+ years’ Workday experience supporting system maintenance/optimization and governance

  • Demonstrated experience in a technical role on one or more HR ERP implementation

  • Demonstrated experience with security administration and dashboards/analytics

  • Proven ability to lead major system activities without direct reports

  • Workday Pro certification preferred

  • Advanced knowledge of Workday configuration, security, reporting, and dashboards

  • Strong analytical, prioritization, and problem-solving skills; attention to risk and data quality

  • Effective communication with HR and business partners; stakeholder management
