Job Description

Workday Payroll Functional Consultant is expected to be proficient in implementing, configuring, and supporting Workday Payroll solutions, including payroll setup, earnings and deductions configuration, payroll calculations, payroll processing, statutory compliance, reporting, and business process configuration. The consultant will leverage native Workday functionality to deliver efficient and compliant payroll solutions aligned with business requirements.

Your Role

In the role of Workday Payroll Functional Consultant, you are expected to have hands-on experience in Workday Payroll implementation, enhancement, and production support. You should possess strong expertise in payroll processing, pay groups, earnings and deductions, payroll calculations, period schedules, taxation, retro processing, payroll validations, and integrations with Core HCM, Time Tracking, Absence, and Benefits.

You will anchor the engagement effort from business process consulting and requirement gathering through solution design, testing, deployment, and post-production support. You will work closely with HR, Payroll, Finance, and technical teams to ensure accurate and compliant payroll operations.

As a Payroll functional expert, you will provide guidance on payroll best practices, process optimization, compliance requirements, and Workday leading practices while supporting client transformation initiatives and capability-building programs.

Responsibilities

  • Relevant experience in Workday Payroll Implementation, Rollout, Upgrade, Enhancement, and Support projects.

  • Conduct client workshops and gather payroll-related business requirements.

  • Configure and maintain:

    • Pay Groups

    • Pay Components

    • Earnings

    • Deductions

    • Payroll Calculations

    • Payroll Schedules

    • Payroll Input Processing

    • Retroactive Payroll Adjustments

    • Payroll Validation Rules

    • Period Schedules

  • Configure and support payroll-related business processes and approval workflows.

  • Design and configure payroll calculations in accordance with business and statutory requirements.

  • Configure and maintain payroll elements such as taxes, deductions, garnishments, employer contributions, and benefit deductions.

  • Support payroll parallel runs, payroll reconciliation, and cutover activities during implementation.

  • Troubleshoot payroll calculation issues, processing errors, integration failures, and production defects.

  • Develop and support payroll reports, audit reports, dashboards, and calculated fields.

  • Create functional specifications, configuration workbooks, test scripts, and user documentation.

  • Perform SIT, UAT, regression testing, payroll validation, and deployment support activities.

  • Conduct payroll audits and reconciliation activities to ensure payroll accuracy.

  • Support Workday release management and evaluate new payroll features and enhancements.

  • Provide end-user training and knowledge transfer sessions.

  • Collaborate with HR, Finance, and compliance teams to ensure payroll governance and compliance.

  • Participate in Agile ceremonies and project governance activities.

Required

  • Minimum 10 years of Workday HCM experience with at least 5 years specializing in Workday Payroll.

  • Experience in at least 2 full lifecycle Workday Payroll implementation projects.

  • Strong expertise in:

    • Workday Payroll

    • Core HCM

  • Experience configuring:

    • Earnings

    • Deductions

    • Payroll Calculations

    • Payroll Schedules

    • Retro Processing

    • Payroll Inputs

    • Payroll Validation Rules

  • Strong understanding of payroll administration and payroll lifecycle processes.

  • Experience supporting payroll reconciliation, parallel payroll runs, and payroll testing activities.

  • Experience with payroll integrations and outbound payroll interfaces.

  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.

  • Ability to convert business requirements into Workday payroll solutions

Preferred

  • Workday Payroll Certification.

  • Experience with Absence Management and Benefits.

  • Experience supporting global payroll deployments and multi-country payroll programs.

  • Experience working with payroll vendors and third-party systems.

  • Experience in payroll compliance, taxation, and statutory reporting requirements.

  • Experience working in Agile, Waterfall, and hybrid delivery environments.

  • Strong stakeholder management and consulting skills.

  • Ability to work effectively within global delivery teams.
