Workday Functional Lead - Skills

About the role

TL;DR

Remote role owning Workday’s Skills workstream across configuration, integrations, data readiness, releases, and support. You’ll lead requirements, design reviews, UAT, and risk management while partnering with Talent, HR, Learning, Workforce Intelligence, Security, and technical teams. Requires 7+ years of Workday functional or technical consulting experience with talent, skills, job architecture, Skills Cloud, Talent Optimization, Learning, or Core HCM.

This role sits in the HR & Payroll Digital Technology (DT) organization on the Talent Technology team, serving as the primary owner and dedicated functional expert for all Workday-related activities within the DT Skills workstream. This role ensures DT delivers aligned Workday functionality, integrations, configuration decisions, data readiness, and sustainment processes that support business requirements.

The Skills Workday Functional Lead aligns with the DT Talent & Performance Program lead on the DT Workday strategy for Skills, drives technical execution, manages Workday releases and enhancements, coordinates DT stakeholders, and ensures ongoing system stability and compliance.

The role partners closely with the Talent Center of Excellence and Workforce Intelligence (WFI) teams to ensure Workday meets the functional and operational needs of the organization based on the overall Skills strategy. Standout candidates will have exceptional stakeholder management and relationship-building skills in addition to technical expertise.

What You Will Do

1. Program Leadership (Skills Program only)

  • Serve as the DT Workstream Lead for Workday within the Skills program, providing direction, alignment, and escalation management.

  • Represent DT in enterprise working groups and decision forums; ensure DT needs, constraints, and downstream impacts are understood.

  • Manage DT’s timeline, dependencies, deliverables, and risk mitigation

2. Workday Functional Leadership

  • Provide functional leadership and guidance to technical contractors and the internal Workday support team.

  • Translate business requirements into Workday configuration decisions, data structures, and functional designs.

  • Conduct functional walkthroughs and solution reviews to ensure design integrity and alignment to enterprise architecture.

3. Requirements, Design & Testing Governance

  • Oversee the creation and review of functional requirements, Workday design documents, and configuration specs.

  • Own DT’s Workday configuration decisions for Skills and ensure accuracy of related integrations and data flows.

  • Lead DT’s UAT approach for Workday capabilities, including planning, test execution support, and signoff.

4. Cross-Functional Alignment & Stakeholder Management

  • Partner with business teams to clarify, interpret, recommend solutions, and implement enterprise requirements within DT’s Workday environment.

  • Coordinate with Talent & Performance Program Lead, HR, L&D, Security, Workforce Intelligence (WFI) Reporting, and other modules to maintain alignment and readiness.

  • Prepare insights and clearly present recommendations to educate and influence direction based on best practices and

5. Data Management & Integration Oversight

  • Ensure data models, data quality rules, and integration requirements support WFI’s enterprise standards.

  • Validate mapping of skills, roles, job architecture, and user attributes across Workday and connected systems.

  • Oversee testing of integrations and data flows related to skills features.

6. Sustainment & Operational Ownership

  • Own DT’s long-term sustainment model for Workday Skills configurations and related integrations.

  • Establish and oversee processes for break/fix, enhancements, regression testing, release management, and change control.

  • Coordinate with DT support teams to maintain system performance, security, and compliance.

Qualifications You Must Have

  • Typically requires: A University Degree or equivalent experience and minimum 10 years prior relevant experience, or An Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 7 years experience

  • 7+ years of Workday functional or technical functional consulting experience with experience with talent, skills, job architecture, or related Workday modules (Skills Cloud, Talent Optimization, Learning, Core HCM)

  • Experience managing configuration, integrations, and functional design reviews with strong program or project leadership experience supporting multi-workstream initiatives

  • Experience representing technical complexity to non-technical stakeholders, facilitating workshops and guiding stakeholders through conceptual frameworks.

  • Partnership experience with HR, DT, vendors, and leadership stakeholders at all levels with excellent documentation, communication, and organizational skills

Qualifications We Prefer

  • Experience with skills frameworks or talent architecture preferred but not required

  • Workday Pro certification(s) in HCM and/or Talent

  • Experience with Workday Reporting and Security

The salary range for this role is 132,400 USD - 251,600 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.

Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and are dependent upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, individual performance, business unit performance, and/or the company’s performance.
