Workday Technical Developer

About the role

TL;DR

Build and support Workday integrations across HR, Payroll, Benefits, Finance, and Supply Chain using Studio, Orchestrate, EIB, Core Connectors, Cloud Connect, RaaS, and Web Services. You’ll troubleshoot production issues, join on-call support, manage releases, and work with business and security teams on data controls and compliance. The role requires three years of Workday or similar ERP experience, with Workday certification required within 120 days of completing education.

The Workday Technical Developer designs, develops, and supports Workday integrations and technical solutions that connect Workday with internal and external systems. This role serves as a technical subject matter expert, ensuring reliable integrations, secure data exchange, system performance, and compliance with organizational standards.

Essential Job Duties

Workday Integration Development

  • Design, develop, test, deploy, and support Workday integrations.

  • Build solutions using Workday Studio, Workday Orchestrate, EIB, Core Connectors, RaaS, Cloud Connect, and Workday Web Services.

  • Develop and maintain interfaces between Workday and third-party applications, including HR, Payroll, Benefits, Finance, Supply Chain, and other enterprise systems.

  • Support integration architecture and recommend scalable technical solutions.

Technical Support & Issue Resolution

  • Monitor integration performance and troubleshoot complex technical issues.

  • Perform root cause analysis and implement corrective actions.

  • Coordinate issue resolution with vendors, IT teams, and business stakeholders.

  • Participate in on-call support and resolve incidents within established service levels.

  • Ensure system availability and data integrity following outages or maintenance activities.

Configuration & System Administration

  • Configure Workday business processes, security groups, notifications, and integration components.

  • Create and maintain EIB processes and related technical configurations.

  • Support Workday upgrades, releases, and enhancement activities.

  • Recommend process improvements to increase efficiency and system utilization.

Security, Compliance & Governance

  • Maintain the accuracy, confidentiality, and integrity of Workday data.

  • Support audit, HIPAA, and regulatory compliance requirements.

  • Collaborate with security teams to maintain role-based access and appropriate system controls.

  • Follow established governance, documentation, and change-management procedures.

  • Maintain audit trails, technical documentation, and system inventories.

Business Partnership & Collaboration

  • Partner with HR, Payroll, Finance, Supply Chain, IT, and vendors to gather requirements and develop technical solutions.

  • Translate business needs into scalable integration and system designs.

  • Communicate system capabilities, limitations, and project updates to stakeholders.

  • Share technical expertise and provide guidance to team members on integration best practices.

Project & Release Management

  • Participate in Workday implementations, upgrades, and enhancement projects.

  • Support all phases of the project lifecycle, including requirements gathering, design, testing, deployment, and documentation.

  • Assess the impact of Workday releases and coordinate regression testing activities.

  • Ensure project deliverables are completed on time and in accordance with organizational standards.

Education

Required:

Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, or related field (or equivalent experience), or equivalent extensive work experience in managing Enterprise resource Management systems (Workday).

Preferred:

Bachelor's degree in business or systems analysis or similar degree with emphasis on data/information analysis (Workday)

Experience

Required:

3 years Workday (or relevant system) with proven expertise in planning, configuring, deploying Workday with a thorough understanding of database construction and system integrations or relevant system experience

Preferred:

  • Hands on Workday integration development experience

  • Proficient with Workday Studio, EIB, Core connectors, documentation, Web Services

  • Experience in working in a regulated industry (healthcare, finance, supply chain) with attention to data privacy/compliance requirements (GDPR, SOC2, etc.)

Position Requirement(s): License/Certification/Registration

Required:

  • Complete education and pass certification in primary Workday application module(s) within 120 days of completed education and maintain certification(s) as required.

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Systems, or related Field (or equivalent experience).

  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with the ability to diagnose complex integration issues.

  • familiarity with JAVA, XML, XSLT, JSON and other web service protocols.

  • Experience integration Workday with third-party systems (payroll, benefits, time and attendance, financial and inventory / supply chain, etc.)

  • Understanding of Workday security model (domain/business process security groups)

Preferred:

Workday Certification

  • Experience with Workday integrations, Studio, or relevant HCM/Finance/Supply Chain modules.

  • Experience working in a regulated industry (healthcare, finance, etc.) with attention to data privacy/compliance requirements.

  • Prior experience with working within a ERP environment and oversite.

  • Workday certification in integrations, Studio, or a relevant HCM/Finance/Inventory Supply Chain industry

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Preferable healthcare setting experience.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with expertise in data analysis and reporting tools

  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate technical concepts for diverse audiences and foster cross functional collaboration.

  • Leads the design, development, testing and deployment of Workday integrations using tools such as Workday Studio, Enterprise Interface Builder (EIB), core connectors, cloud connect, PECI and Workday Web Services.

  • Partners with HR, Payroll, Finance, IT Security, Supply Chain and third-party vendors gather integration requirements and translate them into scalable technical solutions.

  • Own the end-to-end integration lifecycle; requirements gathering, design, build, unit/regression testing, deployment, and post-production support.

  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve integration failures, ensuring minimal disruption to business processes and SLAs.

  • Supports Workday releases (bi-annual updates) by assessing impact on integration and coordinating regression testing.

  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, integration inventories

  • Participate in Workday project implementations, upgrades, and new module rollouts as the integrations subject matter expert
