Workday Payroll Architect

TL;DR

Mercer is hiring a Workday Payroll Architect to join our Digital Transformation team. This is a senior consulting role for an experienced Workday Payroll professional who can lead payroll solution design, guide complex client conversations, and architect high-quality delivery across multiple types of engagements.

This role is especially well suited to someone who brings deep payroll expertise, strong consulting judgment, and the ability to lead both delivery and solution architecture.

What you'll do

  • Architect and lead delivery of the Workday Payroll workstream across implementation and phase X engagements

  • Design scalable payroll solutions that align with client needs, Workday best practices, and strong security standards

  • Act as the payroll subject matter expert for complex functional and client-facing challenges

  • Manage workstream forecasts, timelines, risks, and stakeholder communication

  • Partner with other domain leads to ensure smooth cross-functional delivery

  • Support client presentations, solution design discussions, demonstrations, and scoping estimates

  • Contribute to thought leadership, knowledge sharing, and enablement materials across the practice

What we're looking for

  • Active Workday certifications in at least two of the following: US Payroll, Canadian Payroll, UK Payroll

  • 5+ years of experience as a certified Workday consultant

  • 3+ years of experience leading Workday Payroll implementations as a lead consultant, architect, or subject matter expert

  • Strong expertise in Workday architecture, security, and payroll best practices

  • Proven ability to manage complex client-facing delivery situations successfully

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Nice to have

  • Additional Workday certifications such as Absence, Time Tracking, or Australia Payroll

  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) certification

  • Familiarity with payroll vendors such as ADP, UKG, or Dayforce

  • Experience mentoring, coaching, and enabling support consultants

  • Bilingual proficiency in Spanish or another language

Work authorization

This role is not eligible for employer-sponsored work authorization now or in the future. Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States or Canada, as applicable, without current or future sponsorship.

The applicable base salary range for this role is $111,600 to $223,200.

The base pay offered will be determined on factors such as experience, skills, training, location, certifications, education, and any applicable minimum wage requirements. Decisions will be determined on a case-by-case basis. In addition to the base salary, this position may be eligible for performance-based incentives.
