Senior Specialist, HRIS (Workday)

About the role

TL;DR

Work onsite in Santurce with minimal travel, leading Workday configuration across HCM, Compensation, Benefits, and Security. You’ll manage data audits, access controls, troubleshooting, documentation, training, and HRIS enhancements from requirements through go-live. The role requires 5 to 7 years of HRIS configuration and administration experience, plus a bachelor’s degree in information systems, computer science, computer engineering, or a related field.

Leads the configures, maintenance, and optimization of LUMA's HRIS platform by applying system architecture logic and data governance standards to ensure accurate, secure, and synchronized workforce data that enables reliable reporting and decision-making across Workforce Planning, Talent Acquisition, Employee Experience, Labor and Compliance, Learning and Development, and other HR functions.

Job Description:

  • Provides advanced HRIS configuration expertise across core modules (HCM, Compensation, Benefits, Security) to support the development and implementation of effective, scalable HR system solutions.

  • Audits and reconciles workforce data across integrated systems to identify and correct discrepancies, ensuring data integrity at the source.

  • Leads the Mmonitorings and evaluation of compliance and process effectiveness across HRIS configurations to ensure alignment with data standards and continuous improvement.

  • Leads HRIS implementation and enhancement projects from requirements-gathering through go-live, coordinating with IT, Payroll, and functional HR teams.

  • Applies logical reasoning and root-cause analysis to troubleshoot configuration errors, workflow breakdowns, and data sync failures.

  • Manages security role configuration and access controls within the HRIS platform, applying high security awareness to protect sensitive employee data.

  • Documents HRIS configurations, business process workflows, and data standards to build institutional knowledge and reduce single-point-of-failure risk.

  • Develops and Ddelivers comprehensive training, coaching and guidance to HR and business stakeholders on HRIS functionality, data entry standards, and self-service tools to enhance understanding, reduce downstream errors, and drive adoption of best practices.

  • Ensures data integrity and system configuration standards support Workforce Planning's reporting, dashboard, and KPI needs, enabling sustainable, data-driven decision-making for the department.

  • Partners with cross-functional HR teams — including Employee Relations, Talent Acquisition, Labor Relations and Compliance, and Workforce Planning and OD — to align system configuration with each area's evolving data and reporting needs.

  • Interprets, applies, and reinforces company policies, procedures, and standards, ensuring robust compliance with all applicable laws, industry regulations, and internal governance requirements.Follows established company policies, procedures, and standards to ensure full compliance with applicable laws and industry regulations.

  • Participates in storm restoration tasks and assigned drills to contribute to the safe and reliable recovery of services.

  • Performs additional responsibilities aligned with senior‑level expertise and organizational needs, contributing to strategic projects, team development, and enhanced operational flexibility.

Education

Required Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in information system, Computer Science, or Computer Engineering. or related field

Or in substitution

  • Associate degree in a relevant field may substitute when accompanied by minimum of 8 years performing similar HRIS functions, and minimum of 5 years in a Specialist-level role.

  • High School or GED may substitute when accompanied by minimum of 10 years performing similar HRIS functions, and

  • Minimum of 8 years in a Specialist-level role

Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s degree accompanied by Professional Certifications (Workday Pro, SHRM-CP/SCP, HRIP, etc.)

Experience

Required

  • 5 to 7 years’ experience in HRIS configuration and administration, including data collection, analysis, and interpretation and decision-support activities.

  • Experience working with system documentation, configuration standards, and SOP creation/implementation.

Preferred

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in HRIS configuration and administration, including data collection, analysis, and interpretation

  • Experience supporting Workday modules or similar enterprise HR systems

  • Experience developing HR dashboards, metrics, and analytics

  • Experience coordinating UAT, release testing, or change enablement

  • Experience improving HR process efficiency through automation or technology

  • Familiarity with integrations, APIs, or data flows between HR and Payroll/Finance systems

Additional experience may substitute for required education when it aligns with the competencies and knowledge necessary for the role:

  • Associate’s degree in a relevant field may substitute when accompanied by a minimum of 10 years of experience performing similar functions and at least 7 years of experience performing a previous position as specialist-level role or equivalent.

  • High School or equivalent (GED) when accompanied by a minimum of 12 years of experience performing similar functions described and at least 9 years of experience performing the responsibilities of a specialist role.
